Both have legions of fans
Both have film adaptations in the works.
Which one is more popular?

Which do you like better?

Which do you like better?
PS - I may be the only one, but when I hear that a book is going to be adapted into a film, my first reaction is kind of negative...like, ohh how many changes are they going to make THIS time?! Eragon and PJ just lost my faith in film adaptations. But hey! Apparently Suzanne Collins is writing the screenplay herself - that must mean that the movie will be faithful to the books? What are your thoughts on film adaptations of books? Yes or no?
21 shout-outs!:
I haven’t read the Uglies series. It’s on my TBR list but after reading another book by Westerfeld (I wasn’t impressed) I’m not in a rush to get to it. The Hunger Games is one of my favorites. I’m typically disappointed by film adaptions, but watch them anyway. I love that Suzanne Collins is writing the screenplay. Crossing my fingers for a good adaption of The Hunger Games.
I really liked The Hunger Games better. While the Uglies series was interesting, I thought the character of Katniss Everdeen was more likable. I rooted for her a lot more. In fact, I can't even remember who the MC is in Uglies.
Generally, I watch almost every movie adaptation based on books. I do get extremely irked when they change things. I learned though that instead of getting annoyed with it, I try to look at in a more positive way. These adaptations pique the interests of movie goers, who aren't originally big readers. Some are suddenly going to the bookstores and getting the books where the movies are based on. Movies can introduce reading and books to those who don't typically read. To me, that's always a positive thing to me.
By the way, Amelia, the URL for my blog has changed. It can be found right here now. Please update your feed, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
Oh ooppss.. it's here -> randombookishramblings.blogspot.com
The Uglies series is one of the reasons I stayed away from dystopian books for a while. I thought Uglies was okay, but then Pretties was really annoying. I still haven't read Specials. I love THG though and the fact that Suzanne Collins is writing the screenplay makes me even more excited for the movie. Hopefully, it's not like Percy Jackson and has a bunch of stuff from the book cut out.
I haven't read either series, but from what I know, it sounds like Hunger Games is more popular. I'm probably going to read both soon.
About the movies, I think the movie is always better when its the author who writes the screenplay. Nobody knows the book better than the author! Even though I haven't read the books, I'm still excited to see the Hunger Games movie.
I loved Suzanne Collins Underland Chronicles, so I can't wait to read the books and make sure that they live up to their hype!
I really like both series. Both are fresh new takes on the genre and incredibly engaging and interesting. I can't decide; they're both incredible series.
In regards to film adaptations, I generally have a slightly negative gut feeling when I first hear about it, but I wait to watch the film to really judge. The majority of book adaptations aren't very good, but there are a select few that surpass my expectations. I hope both of these actually get made and turn out to be good.
I really love the Uglies series, but Hunger Games tops it easily.
*Oh my gosh, wasn't Eragon the biggest disappointment ever when the movie came out? I couldn't even believe how bad it was...sometimes I feel like they get it right, but a lot of the time they tend to mess up the story completely.
Read and liked both series --- but most definitely THE HUNGER GAMES!
I have to say the Hunger Games. I read the UGLIES about two years ago and I can still remember it, kinda. But I liked THE HUNGER GAMES better. The characters were more memorable and I know I will remember it for a long time.
I'm not too sure about the movie. Even if the author is writing the screenplay, I'm sure she's going to have to change it around. I mean you have to change things to turn a 200+ page book into a 90-100 minutes movie, right?
Hunger Games for both. I couldn't finish Pretties although Uglies was decent.
The Hunger Games is by FAR the most popular, and I'd definitely say that I like it best ... although I haven't ACTUALLY read my copy of Uglies yet, lol ... it's still waiting patiently on my shelf ... but, really, I don't think you can get better than The Hunger Games - it's that good!
I only read The Hunger Games, and LOVED IT! I think it fits to be a movie, since the pace is quick and the characters instinctive.
I'm a Hunger Games freeeaaakkkk! :) Hurry up August :)
I haven't read either, but both are very poplar among our teens at the library I work at. I'd say the Hunger Games is slightly more popular than the Uglies. There's always a wait list for the Hunger Games, but not so with the Uglies.
Hunger Games for sure! I agree with Lea, Eragon was a horrible movie. Harry Potter has done a great job on the screen. I hope these do too.
I devoured both series but I've always had a thing for dystopians even the classic less entertaining and more disturbing ones like 1984, Brave New World and F451. Uglies was reminiscent of Logan's Run so I thought that was cool. If I absolutely had to choose a favorite in a life or death situation-- Hunger Games.
Hunger Games. If you go into a regular book store and ask the casual reader my guess is they've heard of the Hunger Games before they've heard of Uglies. Plus there's kind of a split about Scot Westerfield I've noticed. Some people love his stuff, some are just passe about it (I'm one of those, I can take him or leave him), while some just outright hate his writing. Most everyone I've talked to though agree that Hunger Games is awesome. I haven't read either. I will say that a screenplay written by the author herself does sound really promising though.
The Uglies series is great, but The Hunger Games is PHENOMENAL!!! Lol.
i actually haven't come around to reading the Ulglies series not sure if im going to either but i love hunger games!!
UGLIES TRILOGY! Sorry, didn't mean to shout. :) I have yet to read the Hunger Games (stupid library fees) but Scott Westerfeld is one of my idols, so, yeah....UGLIES TRILOGY!
I haven't yet read the Uglies, but I definitely love the Hunger Games series. I think it will make a fabulous movie!
